New federal guidelines issued regarding undocumented immigrants

Like many people who immigrate to California, you may have decided to live in Riverside County in order to seek a better life for you and your family. Anyone who is in the United States without the proper documentation runs the risk of being deported and sent back to their country of origin. At US Law Center, we understand how important staying in the United States is to you.

The administration of President Donald Trump recently issued guidelines through the Department of Homeland Security that outline new policies for enforcing immigration law and deporting undocumented immigrants. According to Fortune, some of the new guidelines will not become effective immediately since they will be subject to final approval and comment by the public. However, while it still remains illegal for anyone to be in the country without the proper paperwork, certain types of immigrants will be targeted for expedited deportation.

Specifically, DHS will target undocumented immigrants who are considered a threat to national security. For example, if you are charged with a crime or convicted of a crime, you may be considered dangerous and may therefore be at risk of being removed from the country. In addition, the guidelines also target those who are unable to prove that they entered the United States more than two years ago. The guidelines also call for the hiring of additional border agents and enforcement agents.

If, however, you are one of the many immigrants who entered the country as a child without the proper documentation, sometimes known as “dreamers,” the protections afforded you under the Obama administration will remain in place.
