House immigration debate to continue into fall

The U.S. House of Representatives recently took up debate on immigration reform. As we have noted in prior posts, the Senate passed their version of the bill last month. However, the debate in the House is likely to be more contentious and divisive than the Senate discussions.

House of Representatives to take up immigration reform bill

With the U.S. Senate passing a historic immigration reform bill before the Fourth of July recess, the House of Representatives is tasked with debating immigration reform. The Senate passed their version of the bill by a comfortable margin (68-32) but some believe that such consensus will be difficult to attain in the House.

Historic immigration bill passes in Senate

Immigration reform is halfway to being a reality in the United States. After years of rancor and debate, Congress has made what can arguably be considered meaningful progress in resolving a problem that has vexed lawmakers for decades. The vote is also important in that it legitimizes what has been only rumors and political talk involving potential change.
