Immigrants may be safe from extended jail time

Riverside may soon be in for some jail changes in regard to immigration detention. While deportation sometimes follows detainment, the detention itself can be a grueling experience. In order to lower the number of immigrants being detained, there have been many moves recently to keep jails and federal immigration agents from working together.

Boosting the economy by getting immigrants education and citizenship

The children of immigrants in Riverside County may have been afraid to attend college until now. Due to the stalled immigration law reform, students who are not registered as citizens are still potentially at risk of being found by authorities, which is a big deterrent to some. However, that deterrent may be abolished soon.

House Republicans need convincing that immigration reform is not liberal ploy

Immigrants and activists in Riverside may have experienced a recent upswing in people who wish to obtain their citizenship. Whether it’s through naturalization or work visas, more immigrants are getting frustrated with the slow-moving approval system which has all but come to a stop lately.

House could be looking for a way to pull out of immigration negotiation

The problems with deportation have been known to Riverside immigration activists for quite a while. When it comes to U.S. immigration law and how it relates to detainees, many have been unsatisfied and have pushed for both citizenship reform and deportation reform, but their solidarity has been threatened recently.
