Undocumented immigrants granted drivers licenses in California

The workforce in Riverside is made up of many people. A portion of that force includes immigrants. There may be a chance that at least one of your coworkers is an immigrant without documentation. However, up until recently, the work conditions for immigrants may have been considered by some to be unsafe. This is due to the fact that undocumented immigrants were not allowed to apply for a driver’s license.

Because of recent pushes in support when it comes to amending immigration law, undocumented immigrants in California may now apply for their license. Those in support of the movement believe that it will make work safer for potentially 1.4 million immigrants who are undocumented in California. With access to a license, undocumented immigrants will be able to apply to jobs and drive without fear of running into legal trouble.

There are some people who disagree with a last minute amendment that will make it mandatory for the licenses of these undocumented immigrants to sport a mark identifying them as undocumented. Some believe it may paint a target on that community. However, the need for licenses may outweigh this pitfall, as many are still supporting the measure.

The workplace can be stressful enough without having to worry about legal issues like a driver’s license. Many consider this a step in the right direction in regard to handling problems with undocumented immigrants.
