Authorities: 7-Elevens ran 'plantation' with undocumented workers

As Southern California residents know, immigrants are at great risk for being exploited by unscrupulous employers. Although this is a deplorably common practice in California's agricultural industry, for example, we certainly are not the only state where undocumented workers are being abused.

ACLU class action targets voluntary departure

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of San Diego and Imperial County has filed a class action lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security and its chief, Janet Napolitano. The ACLU is accusing border patrol agents and ICE officers of using improper tactics to coerce undocumented immigrants into signing summary expulsion documents.

Healthcare issues within new immigration bill

Today the U.S. Senate officially opened debate on the long-anticipated immigration reform bill. According to an ABC News.com report, lawmakers are set to debate the bill for a number of weeks before putting it to a vote. In our previous posts we have highlighted a number of issues likely to be debated, including the number of visas available for high tech professionals compared to migrant workers, and whether the new law would recognize same sex couples.
